Azle High School Percussion

The percussion program at Azle High School is comprised of all percussion students grades 9 through 12 at AHS.  The students in the percussion program regularly are selected to TMEA All-Region ensembles, as well as consistently ranking in the top 10 academically at Azle High School.  There are many program offerings within the percussion section, including percussion ensemble, indoor drumline, participation in the Marching Green Pride, as well as solo and chamber ensemble opportunities.  The Azle percussion section is a consistent award-winning group, including regular appearances at the WGI World Championships for Indoor Drumline, as well as past-recipients of “Outstanding Soloist” at the Texas State Solo and Ensemble Contest, held annually in Austin, and also being regular “Best-in-Class” winners in the percussion caption at marching contests.  Additionally, students may elect to participate in the jazz ensembles, learning advanced drum set skills and jazz vibraphone technique.

Students in the percussion program are part of a curriculum that includes emphasis on sight-reading skills, as well as music theory knowledge, and a focus on individual musicianship.  The Azle percussion program is under the direction of Michael Strange.
